The Evolution of the System of Care Approach for Children, Youth, and Young Adults with Mental Health Conditions and Their Families First introduced in the 1980s, the system of care approach aims to deliver culturally competent, individualized care that is coordinated across multiple systems. This framework is effective, but it requires periodic updates. This document builds on a 2010 update of the approach and responds to environmental changes, changes in health and human services delivery, experience, and new data.
