Hey y’all, and welcome back! Country roads lead me home, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. When I think of home, I think of my Mom’s famous biscuits on Sunday morning (our special treat), feeling grass between my bare toes as I ran in the backyard as a child – sweet memories that nestle between some of the more traumatic ones. I also think about how difficult it was to get anything or anywhere, from the middle of the small town I grew up in. This month, let’s chat about the Pediatric Integrated Primary Care model as a step forward to providing holistic healthcare in rural and frontier areas. I know, I know… it’s easier said than done. But let’s explore what some folks are doing across the nation. Integrated Primary Care So, what is Integrated Primary Care (IPC)? It's an opportunity for medical and behavioral health clinicians to collaborate, not just with each other but with patients and families too. Together, everyone is included in conversations about health … [Read more...] about Take Action with NTTAC: Rural Health and Pediatric Integrated Primary Care

Take Action with NTTAC: Affordable Housing
Hey y’all (I’m a Southerner, so, yes, I say y’all)! The NTTAC team and I have been talking a lot about shifting discussions, webinars, and resources into actions that make a positive community impact. Exciting stuff! We wanted to invite you – yes, you – into the conversation! This month, I'm kicking off a series that dives into the heart of mental health initiatives across the nation that are making a real impact on the lives of children and families. Let's start by looking at something close to my heart—the connection between mental health and affordable housing. Affordable Housing: A Personal Connection I came across a story that’s right here in my current hometown — Atlanta, GA. One landowner decided “…she doesn’t want to play the game; she wants her communities to win.” In collaboration with other stakeholders, she purchased and redesigned two apartment complexes with the mission to invest in people, not property. New playgrounds were built, childcare … [Read more...] about Take Action with NTTAC: Affordable Housing

Building Bridges of Hope through Trauma-Informed Caregiver-School Partnerships Institute Session Part 2: Mental Health & Culture
Supporting children and youth with high emotional and behavioral needs is often lonely, overwhelming, complex, and not well-understood. As a caregiver, how do you navigate school services, child welfare, and other involved systems to get the support you need for your child? As school providers, how might we learn with families through their advocacy journeys? In this recorded webinar, participants came together to listen and learn from family advocates and colleagues in the field to deepen their practice, student-center their services, and make this work less lonely and more connected. Parents, caregivers, providers, educators, and all members of the school community were invited to join and strategize how to support each other while supporting students with emotional and behavioral health needs. … [Read more...] about Building Bridges of Hope through Trauma-Informed Caregiver-School Partnerships Institute Session Part 2: Mental Health & Culture
