DESCRIPTION
This 60-minute Lunch-n-Learn will address mental health screening needs for Healthy Transitions, System of Care grantees, and other communities that have an interest in adopting a screening initiative primarily within school districts but also in partnership with other systems. We will discuss universal screening and detection using evidence-based screening tools to address the needs of children, youth, and young adults who may be experiencing early mental health concerns. The importance of partnership and referrals for support or treatment will also be incorporated into the discussion.
Presenters will provide an overview of how universal mental health screening was piloted and scaled-up across Methuen Public Schools, a district that has screened students for the past 7 years and is currently screening students in grades K-12. Practical strategies that have yielded successful implementation of mental health screening will be offered to attendees, including a description of the procedures the district adopted to safely and efficiently scale up this practice and leverage the data to effectively foster early identification of students requiring mental health services. Presenters will discuss screening as a practice that fosters prevention, aids in progress monitoring, and supports program and system evaluation.
