Supporting Families to Foster Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH): A Special Topic for Family Advocacy Leaders, Peer Support Providers and Early Childhood Leaders

DESCRIPTION

Infant and early childhood mental health (IECMH) supports promotion and prevention through capacity building for children birth through five years of age.  Helping infants, toddlers, and young children develop the skills to form close relationships, manage and express feelings, and explore and learn from their environments offers protective factors that can last a lifetime.  Family peer support providers, family engagement leaders, and staff are uniquely positioned to assist families in learning about and promoting infant and early childhood mental health.

We invite you to join a webinar with fellow infant and early childhood systems of care program leaders and staff, family advocacy leaders, and experts from the field. Together, we will explore the ways in which infant and early childhood mental health affects the children and families we serve, as well as our programs and organizations. We will also discuss strategies and share resources designed to help programs get started in their work to support infant and early childhood mental health and promote social-emotional development in culturally appropriate ways, in the context of family systems.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Define infant and early childhood mental health in language that is accessible to program leaders, staff, and families
  • Increase knowledge of strategies, supports, and resources family engagement leaders and staff can use to promote infant and early childhood mental health
  • Provide a collective space for questions related to promoting infant and early childhood mental health within programs and families can be addressed
