Search Institute is committed to exploring the role of positive, developmental relationships in the lives of young people. Relationships First introduces their research and provides some starting points for action for organizations and leaders who work with youth.
Search Institute has identified five elements—expressed in 20 specific actions—that make relationships powerful in young people’s lives. Research has found that young people who experience strong developmental relationships across different parts of their lives are more likely to show signs of positive development in many areas.
The Developmental Assets are 40 research-based, positive experiences and qualities that influence young people’s development, helping them become caring, responsible, and productive adults.
