Through storytelling and witnessing the experience of a child through the eyes of an adult, we learn new ways to improve our practices as educators. How might we change our practices to be more trauma-informed? How might we see the strength and softness of others as they navigate the mental health systems of care? Promoting Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health with the Support of Family Engagement Leaders
Infant and early childhood mental health (IECMH) supports promotion and prevention through capacity building for children birth through five years of age. Helping infants, toddlers, and young children develop the skills to form close relationships, manage and express feelings, and explore and learn from their environments offers protective factors that can last a lifetime. Family peer support providers, family engagement leaders, and staff are uniquely positioned to assist families in learning about and promoting infant and early childhood mental health. This webinar convened infant and early childhood systems of care program leaders and staff, family advocacy leaders, and experts from the field. Together, they explored the ways in which infant and early childhood mental health affects the children and families we serve, as well as our programs and organizations. Similarly, mental health professionals frequently want to ensure that services are culturally responsive to individual’s faith and spirituality. It can be difficult, however, for faith communities and mental health providers to know how to effectively work together to build stronger and more supportive systems of care.
